I stood in the dark as two spotlights appeared before me
The sound of footsteps reached me ever so gently
Two men walked into a light each and stopped as they reached the middle
The one to the right of me was dressed in a suit
The other was in rags, wearing a green sneaker and a yellow boot
I felt like I was part of a riddle
The spotlight expanded and pushed the dark to the edges of my sight
The greenery surrounding me suddenly hit my eyes like a flash of light
The two stood in front of a path as they both used their hands to beckon me
A sense of urgency struck my heart as the ground behind me started to crumble
I needed to pick one or rot away within the darkness as it consumes the withering dirt
It crossed my mind that perhaps the dark won’t hurt
But fear pushed my back and I took my first step
I inspected the two roads since there was no going back
The one with the suit in front was paved with a green line in the middle of it
It had signs to warn for dangers that might happen while you travel across it
In the far distance, I could see figures making their way into the horizon
This road was clean and it was then that I noticed that above it was the sun
The other road had the moon but it was still well lit
This road looked like it tried to collect all the dirt it could get
Leaves sat atop a muddy path that had no clear line to define it
The howl of wolves whispering on the wind was the only warning
The horizon on this one was empty with what seemed like cracks in the sky
Fear placed his hand on my back and told me to walk
Logic uncharacteristically didn’t feel the need to talk
This was up to me
With my eyes closed, I stepped into the mud and made my way
The sun went down, the moon shun bright
The sky teared up, the clouds danced to the tune of twinkling stars
As I made my way
Someday I will look back and think of what could have been
If I followed the sun
