Chapter 77: Sachem’s truth

Sachem goes in for a frontal attack, but this time he uses his speed to create several after-images meant to confuse Braverte. But his tactic proves useless as Braverte dashes in a straight line towards the real Sachem. Grabs his head and slams it into the ground. But instead of letting go like before, Braverte tightens his grip and slams his head again and again and again.

Demo and the others are starting to feel bad for Sachem. After the 6th slam, Demo can’t help himself.

“That’s enough. I don’t think he can fight anymore.”

Braverte stops with his hand, all bloody, holding Sachem’s head. Braverte looks at Demo with a smile on his face.

“Never defeat your enemy halfway. If you’re going to destroy them, destroy them completely. Letting them live or giving them a second chance at life will only come back to bite you in the end.”

Braverte raises Sachem’s limp body. Sachem, however, is still conscious as he glares at Braverte with rage in his eyes. This puts a smile on Braverte’s face.

“Whoever trained you, trained you well. It’s impressive how you manage to keep your composure, and even more impressive how you can keep your anger. Most people would have traded it for fear a long time ago. Now tell me, who is your God?”

Sachem knows that regardless of whether or not he answers Braverte, his life is most likely at its end. This might be his only chance to get revenge.

“It’s …”

The moment the intent was born to reveal his god, the curse that was put on him was triggered. Sachem’s chest released a burst of energy. His eyes change to a deep purple and then neon green. Braverte’s eyes pop open, and he realizes what is happening. He throws Sachem’s body far away from everyone. Sachem’s body lands, and his body starts going into convulsions, he releases a bloody scream.

Everyone looks on in horror as Sachem is surrounded by a green mist that covers his entire body. The mist has a creepy smile of darkness in the middle of it. After a few moments, Sachem’s screams die down, and an eerie silence covers everyone. The green mist dissipates and leaves a lifeless body behind. Except for Pulmo and Braverte, everyone had a befuddled look on their face.

Demo can tell that Braverte isn’t confused.

“What was that?”

Braverte is stunned at the fact that this curse was what took Sachem. He never expected to see that curse in this universe, let alone this planet. He knows that Demo and his friends aren’t ready for what this means. But if he tells them a half-truth, they will keep asking.

“I think his technique overloaded his body and mind.”

Ten doesn’t feel too convinced.

“Or maybe he had some brain damage from all the smashing, and something went wrong.”

Braverte looks at Ten and nods.

“That could very well be true. But either way, this is finally over. I want to thank you all for your help. And Palindra warrior, I want to apologize for what happened here. I’m sorry. I didn’t know they were using the Palindra for this. If I had an inkling of a clue that this was the case, I would have destroyed it all without thinking about justice.”

Diwena doesn’t say a word but just looks at the corpses of his kind scattered around the laboratory. Demo looks at Diwena and walks up to him.

“What were you doing in my shadow?”

Diwena focuses on Demo, who is now standing in front of him.

“Waiting for my chance to kill you.”

Demo smiles, takes another step forward, and goes into Diwena’s personal space, and then looks up at him. Demo’s eyes start glowing a red hue.

“You think you can?”

“You allowed me to avenge my kin. You can keep your life for now.”

“That wasn’t really your decision to make.”

Ten jumps in.

“Why are you looking for a fight with him?”

“He hid in my shadow like some crazy stalker. And he thinks he is still stronger than me.”

“Both of you are in no shape to fight. Let’s save this for later.”

“You’re right.”

Demo releases a deep sigh and sits down on the ground, exhausted. He thinks to himself that he still has a lot of training and growing to do. He was unable to defeat Sachem. But he was able to learn how to use rotation and weight shifting to increase his speed and strength, as well as a hint to how he can use Cover Up to increase his strength and explosiveness. But none of that mattered when facing Sachem. Why was Braverte able to defeat him so easily?

My-Ty stood in amazement at what he just saw. he stared at Braverte with stars in his eyes. He is unable to say a word as he processes what just happened. Braverte completely dominated Sachem without seemingly any problems. He anticipated what was coming and moved to where Sachem was going to be instead of where he was. He used Sachem’s momentum against him. Braverte is just amazing!

Braverte is starting to feel slightly uncomfortable at how My-Ty is staring at him like some obsessed fan.

“You should all go back and rest. We will call the proper authorities to come and take care of the aftermath. Palindra, you should go back into the shadows; your presence will cause a lot of unnecessary commotion.”

Diwena touches his chest, and with his finger, he draws a symbol on his chest. The symbol on his chest starts glowing, and black rock comes out of his chest. Diwena grabs the rock and holds it up.

“Kynesthia Kyralim (Rest in Peace, my kin).”

The black rock starts glowing and breaks down into small pieces until it falls to the ground like fine sand. Once it hits the ground, the floor they are standing on starts glowing with a blue light. The Palindra bodies that decorated the laboratory start glowing as the blue light touches them. Small particles of energy are released from their bodies. And go up until they disappear into nothingness.

Diwena closes his eyes and jumps back into Demo’s shadow. They then all make their way back to rest.
